The fate of the Malaysian former army man, Azmi Mahmud, 53, received the attention of Baitulmal Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP, Malaysia) and the Malaysian Armed Forces Veteran Affairs Department (JHEVATM). Azmi received zakat health equipment assistance from Baitulmal MAIWP while JHEVATM continued to apply for a monthly allowance of RM300.
According to 27th July 2018 local news, MAIWP Officer said the investigation found that Azmi needed special equipment such as beds, mattresses, portable toilet bowls and sticks.
“Azmi is a zakat recipient and MAIWP gives monthly financial aid amounting to RM400 from 2013. The former army also gets the assistance from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) amounting to RM250 per month.
“MAIWP Asnaf Trail’s squad visited Azmi’s home today (yesterday) found that her daughter, Norashikin, 27, had a disability status (OKU), also received a monthly aid of JKM employees amounting to RM400 a month,” he said.
According to the officer, MAIWP strives to provide the best in assisting the asnaf, besides he wishes that community and media cooperation to identify those target groups.
